(excerpted from the November 2006 article "Safe Place Awaits Child In Danger" by Dana Burke in The Citizen)Pineloch children who feel they are in danger can now receive volunteer assistance by visiting the Valero service station at the corner of Bay Area Boulevard and Space Center Boulevard. Valero is the first local business to join Project Safe Place, which is already active in Galveston, as it expands into Harris County, starting with the Clear Lake area.
The program provides places in the community for youth involved in crisis situations such as abuse, kidnapping and exploitation to find immediate help. Project Safe Place signs will be placed at participating businesses and community partners. Staff members are trained to immediately contact the proper authorities when a child in crisis enters a Safe Place site.
For additional information, contact Mary Shish, Project Safe Place coordinator for Harris County, at 409-739-8474.
