RECYCLING INFORMATION

Items to be recycled are collected bi-weekly every other Friday.  The City provides a green 18-gallon recycling bin for this purpose.  Pickup dates can be viewed at:

City of Houston 2011 Recycling Calendar (.PDF file)

Items that will be accepted in the bin are as follows: newspaper; magazines; office paper; unwanted mail (important documents should be shredded); telephone books; aluminum, steel, tin and EMPTY aerosol cans; and plastic containers types #1 - #5 or #7.  No wide-mouth tub, long neck, or chemical plastic containers are accepted.  Also accepted is used motor oil in the original or a non-chemical container, which should be placed next to the bin.  Cardboard boxes broken down into a 3' X 3' square will also be accepted if placed next to or underneath the recycling bin.

When the bin is properly prepared, it should be placed out at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day or after 6:00 p.m. the evening before.  If for any reason the bin is lost or damaged, you may request a replacement bin by calling the City of Houston Service Helpline at 3-1-1.  Questions should also be addressed to the Service Helpline, or you can visit City of Houston Recycling Services website at www.houstontx.gov/solidwaste/recycling.html for more information.
